On Friday, September 30, 2016, our MUSC ASDA chapter had our first ever Leadership Retreat. The retreat was held on the beautiful Edisto Island. Watching the water slowly flow by the dock as the sun woke up behind us was a great way to begin the retreat. One of the focuses of the day was introducing the newly elected officers to the other members on the executive committee and forging friendships so that every member sees themselves as a valued and essential participant of our committee. We also discussed qualities of a good leader as well as what it looks like to be a leader among our dental peers in our local chapter. The morning quickly flew by as we discussed upcoming events for the semester. Next we jumped into our strategic planning portion of the retreat. Overlooking the bright green marsh and the canopy of majestic oaks hung with Spanish moss proved to be the perfect setting for creative thinking. By mid-afternoon, we changed gears and began our team building activities. At the end of the day, with events planned and new friendships forged, the ASDA leadership left the retreat energized and excited for the upcoming year!
